Questions and Answers
Q Do I need to rent a vehicle?
No, we have bus service at our back door, every 15 minutes, to San Jose del Cabo
or Cabo San Lucas. The bus stop is a 2 minute walk from the exit gates and the
return trip just say "La Jolla por favor" & the driver will drop you at the pull
off beside La Jolla. Price is 5 pesos & route is the Transpeninsular Highway through
San Jose & north to the Super Plaza & south to C. S. L. You may want to rent a
vehicle for day trips only. Taxis to and from San Jose are very reasonable.
Q. How far is the nearest grocery store and restaurants?
Trader Dicks, right next door, is a 24 hr convenience store, bar and restaurant
providing imported meats, cheeses, wines, great omelets, burgers, etc. Also next
door is Corre Camino Cafe, the best bakery in town: multigrain breads, pastries,
great espresso plus deli meals and Internet service. Catch the bus or a taxi to
Castro’s Supermercado, on the Hwy just past Doblado, for a good selection of groceries.
A 10 minute walk along the beach to the south is Zipper’s for dining on the beach
or to the north is Brisa del Mar Restaurant and Bar, which features live music
Thur & Sat (in season) & Sunday buffet specials. The town of San Jose is a 20-25
minute walk from La Jolla, on paved sidewalks.
Q. Is the water safe to drink?
Our local water source has to be one of the purest in the world. The artesian
wells are located close to Santa Anita and draw the water from limestone aquifers
thousands of feet below the surface. However, if you are concerned about drinking
tap water, especially after a storm, local bottled water has been tested & found
to be superior to imported. Look for "Hielo & Agua Purificada" signs. All commercially
sold ice MUST by law be made from purified water that is regularly monitored by
a certified chemist.
Q. What about Montazuma’s Revenge?
Moderation on arrival helps. Our experience is that when we switch too quickly
into drinking more alcohol, getting too much sun, beans, salsa, and aircraft unfiltered
‘air’ we are likely to have a day of illness to recuperate. The dining spots I
recommend on this site are very sanitary.
Q. Should I take my cell phone?
I am told this is a very expensive luxury. The cost of calling collect from Mexico
is also expensive. The best method is to buy LADA cards costing about $100 pesos
for 10 minutes when calling home.
